I’m a couple days late but thank you to all of the veterans out there and your families for your service and sacrifice.
Several videos have been surfacing lately that have been capturing the reaction of the families of military men and women as they make a surprise visit home. It’s hard not get emotional when seeing the joy on the family’s faces when mom or dad show themselves. Here’s a link to the latest one I saw: http://youtu.be/P1pq3GM0UAc
Tonight as I sit in a hotel room at the end of a day of a work conference, I’ve been watching a few of them thanks to YouTube. Most of the videos are of dads surprising his kids and I must say that if there were ever any doubt about how much kids love their dad, then watch of few of these videos.
You’d expect that anyone under the age of 13 or 14 would cry and run to their dad and give them a big hug. But teenagers? Especially teenage boys who are too cool to cry or show any emotion? Especially when a crowd is watching? It turns out that they cry, too. And being surprised, you know it’s an honest emotion.
And it’s a good sign that dads are still great. That no matter how much grief kids give us, deep down they still love us. So don’t ever give up on your kids. They’re counting you to hold it together and they need you to hold it together and to support them and love them.
